From concept to design, here’s how Eurocomach machines are born. The voice of Luca

Eurocomach excavators strike the attention of our customers not only for their technical capabilities but also for their design and shape.

Eurocomach’s 3D models give an initial idea of the machine that will be presented to the customer and are among the materials most requested by our dealers themselves.

Luca, designer planner, is the hand that gives life to our 3Ds, the Eurocomach-branded ones and the customized ones requested by our customers.

We interviewed him to learn more about his work and how a Eurocomach machine is created starting with the design project.

When does your adventure in Sampierana begin?

I started working for Sampierana in an external studio in 2012. At first, I was in charge of 2D drawing and we were the company’s suppliers for the realizations of the design part.

Then in 2014 I was hired at Sampierana and started working here with the support of Massimo Barchi, who is our reference as head designer and responsible for freehand sketching. I would receive the pencil sketches and turn them into reality through 2D.

Since I have been here, I have not always done machine design, but I have still had tasks related to research and design dynamics.

How many of you are currently involved in machine design?

This aspect, to date, is my sole responsibility.

Come si svolge il tuo lavoro?

I give a practical example. The salesmen choose a model to be relaunched, which is better performing than in the past: for example, compared to an old model, the new one may be equipped with ventilation for the inside of the cab, air conditioning, a specific triple arm, modification to the vents that shoot little air. This is also developed on the basis of customers’ requests.

All these requests are passed to me, or rather to my manager, Fusai, and from there a series of outline studies begin.I try to figure out together with colleagues how to make these features real and concrete.

In this work we share tasks to finalize the project.

In addition to design skills do you also have engineering skills?

Not me, I came from a vocational school where I learned 2D. However, the outside studio experience helped me build a solid experience on multiple fronts as well. Precisely because my role is more related to drawing, this is still then passed on to one of our people with engineering skills to intersect with design needs.

Since CNH has been around, do you feel that you have learned anything new? .

I have noticed that since we joined we have also given space and attention to component management, to making carpentry as simple as possible.

Once you’ve made the model of the machine in three-dimensional format, does the production of the model begin?

No, they start the prototypes. When we finish designing the whole machine we go to the prototypes to see if there are any problems, if we need to update the 3D model. Eight nine machines are assembled on the line to see if production side works and then done those we start mass production.

In my role I go to prototypes very little, because there is a fixed support there with a dedicated person who works alongside the workers and explains the various details to them.

Before making prototypes I do renderings and also design stickers for the Eurocomach department.

In your position, do you have a way to relate to other offices as well?.

The scale that follows my work starts from the commercial and corresponds to commercial, project manager, and design. So I interface more with commercial and buyers and, often, with spare parts for optional components.

Next goals?

As a next step, I would like to design wheel loaders as well.
